Ezra Thorne-Matsuda is a former product designer who spent six years building the engagement loops they now teach people to escape. Raised between two cultures with radically different relationships to silence, attention, and technology, they bring a unique perspective to the intersection of digital ethics and contemplative practice.
After a mental health crisis in their early thirties — insomnia, a dissolved marriage, and the realization they had not read a book cover-to-cover in four years — they left tech and spent over a year in a monastic community doing manual labor and learning to sit in a room without reaching for a screen. They now run a practice combining digital ethics consultation with contemplative spiritual direction. They still feel the phantom buzz. They are honest about that.
